I am building a coop that I will put a small feeder and waterer in, but they'll have all-day access to 1/3 acre, so I would like to keep a feeder/waterer outside, too. However, I'd hate to lose the feed to a surprise rainstorm (I'm a stay at home mom, so most times I should be able to take care of bringing it in, but here in Missouri, weather can blow through unexpectedly, so...). I guess it wouldn't be totally weatherPROOF, but something to keep food dry on a drizzly day, if there's any way to do it...

A gallon milk jug works great for keeping feed dry. Just cut out a small hole (about twice as big as a chickens head) about half way up on the side of the jug. I always cut the hole on the opposite side of the handle, that way I can tie the jug so it doesnt get turned over. Im using them right now outdoors and Ive yet to have any feed get wet, (although it will if the wind blows just right while raining.) They also work for waterers too. A cheap and simple feeder and waterer.
