So I have 4 baby ducks about 2 weeks old maybe a little older. Right now they are in with my baby chicks and turkeys. My question is what’s a good diy or any type of temporary water pond for them while they are in this box. I do have a kiddie pool for when I move them outside and we are going to be making a pond as well this year. But do to the cold and unpredictable Michigan weather I’m very hesitant to put them in the kiddie pool. They are getting water everywhere and I end up filling the water twice a day. I was thinking of cutting like a pop bottle but not sure what’s the best idea. Thanks in advance this is my first time with ducks.

Here are a few ideas:

1 move the waterer onto something like a short bowl or brick to raise it up

2 move a dog bowl of water they can swim in

3 put them in the bath with shallow water and watch them swim around
Thank you the dog bowl is a good idea! I have the water sitting up on 2 pieces of wood but that apparently isn’t doing anything and I don’t know if I should go higher with the other babies in there

I would separate the chicks and ducks at this time, having the chicks exposed to too much water and mess could start some stress and diseases on them. Keep the chicks clean and dry until they can fend for themselves outside.
I was hoping to wait 2 more weeks but I’m not sure if that’s gonna happen. I plan on putting them outside then but as you said I don’t want to stress them out or cause them to get a disease

How many chicks? Maybe you can make a separate brooder for them made out of big cardboard boxes till the move. We have very similar weather/climate. I find it easier to brood by adding extra rooms (boxes) if I can’t move them out right away.

Consider a paint roller tray as a pool. The graduated depth makes it easier for the ducklings to get out of the water. Also consider putting a piece of hardware cloth over a shallow baking pan, bending it over the edges and putting the waterer on top in the center so splashing gets collected in pan. You can build up bedding around the pan to help the ducklings get up to the water. If the waterer is too heavy for the hardware cloth, put a dish or other object underneath, inside of the pan, to support the waterer. Put bedding on top of hardware cloth to protect ducking feet.

you could also put that rubber shelf liner (Dollar Tree) on top of the hardward cloth for their little feet and it would be easy to clean.
