Ideas on how to increase roosting area?

I agree with Pat (I always agree with everything Pat says) - your chickens probably will all fit happily and cozily on the 8 foot board. I have 2 eight foot boards and one little short one for 26 birds and they have all kinds of extra space; they snuggle up pretty close together for the most part. I'd wait and see. It looks very nice!

Cramming a few more occupants in the same limited space is no problem... just paint your coop the same colors Southwest Airlines uses... feed some peanuts.

I use a roosting ladder over the poop board. I have it nailed in at an angle so that the chickens are roosting in what looks like desending theater seats. They stay warmer in the winter at nite as they are in a bunch instead of all line up. There will always be hens that claim the top rung for themselves, but that is part of chicken society. The one and only rooster sleeps on the same rung in the center of the 13 hens everynite. He's no dummy.
