I found with mine, I have a barrier between the bowl and the area. Then, the water is protected from whatever they kick, but they can still get to it just fine. Works beautifully. I tried raising it, but the little boogers kept banging their beaks against the stone (going after whoever knows what), so I took it out - I was too worried they'd hurt their beaks.
And yes, I agree. They are just too cute kicking stuff around. Not when you're having to clean water over and over and over mind you, but ... How can you stay mad at those cute little faces? hehe
