Great ideas! I suppose painting designs or something inside the coop wouldn't be so stinky like painting the whole inside was! I like the flowerbox idea too...I wanted to maybe put shutters on the windows...the fake ones just for looks. Maybe in a burgundy color, to match our barn (burgundy steel). The coop is very close to the same color as the house....so we need some barn color around there somewhere too!
Bamboo? I'll have to see what that looks like! Sounds quite interesting! (I remember looking up something called "heavenly bamboo" for a different landscaping project onetime, but if I remember right, it wouldn't work in my zone...might be wrong. I'm zone 5 by the way.
Thank you! Keep 'em coming! And I love pics if you want to share too!!
I'd paint the front door shiny barn red. EDIT: Just read your post above - go for a burgandy door and shutters. Put up little shutters on the sides of the windows and paint them the same red. Put a window flower box under the window on the left (non-run side).
Get two black wrought iron type plant hangers and mount on both sides of the door and hang a colorful hanging flower planter. (red, white and blue flowers are my favorite EDIT - go for burgandy or pink and blue to match the burgandy.
Hang a metal plaque, wooden coop name sign, or clay sun above the door.
Personally I wouldn't do bamboo. It grows very quickly, which is good, but can be very invasive if you don't plan for it carefully. It has runners and will be all over your yard if you don't have some sort of container. I love the way it looks, but we inherited some when we moved and it takes quite a bit of maintenance to keep it in the area it was designed for.
If you grew it in large decorative pots it would work, but otherwise I would steer clear.
IF you can i would paint it a nice calm yellow. I would maybe plant some colorful flowers like zinnias or something. i like the idea of the flower boxes, and the wrot iron. i think you should paint the door and put some elegant design or something. add some UMPH!!! haha, maybe you could get some concrete circles, and tile it, and then put it in a path or something.Maple trees are nice... well idk, just some ideas...
