Another option is a dimmer cord (a few bucks at a hardware store, like a dimmer switch only it is a little extension cord that can be adjusted). I use dimmer cords for my reptiles so I can adjust the output on their heat lamps. The new ones have a little slide switch so you can instantly flip them off or on or anywhere in between accurately, very easy especially when the room temp fluctuates and you need to adjust the heat output 2-3 times a day.
