Ideas on keeping predators out?

i hear the coyotes in the distance but so far have not come near hoe with english shepard out..no raccons skunks opossums either happy for that. we usually get fisher cats but they have not been around also ...

Good lord, now all you need are snakes to round you out! I suggest hanging cheap tin pans
on twine or other cheap string around the areas where they walk. As soon as you notice them,
shake it so the pans hit each other and scare the predators away. If you're not around, then try
leading the twine along the ground attached to trees or bushes, ect and attach it so the animals will
run into it and shake the pans. After being run off a few times by the loudness, they'll learn that it's not
a good thing to come around.

Another suggestion is to get a motion-activated toy type thing. Roll up a
plastic plate or just a piece of cardboard so it makes a loudspeaker in front of the speaker of the toy and face it
where the animals come in most. It'll move and make loud, strange noises. We used to use those to scare off bears
while camping.
That's a great idea. Or maybe just some loud, big chimes?

Another thing I'm thinking is to use some strong, steel chain around the fence for the bears.

I hear Mossberg puts out a fine shotgun. Gotta bear? Get slugs. Respect it (the bear) and attempt scare the crap out of it first... Funny thing, a short while back, we had a "bear scare" 2 mi down the road...in Broken Arrow, OK! Silly officials left it in a tree it had climbed IN A NEIGHBORHOOD (because you just go home, right?) and came back in the morning to find guess what??? AN EMPTY TREE!!!! Stupids. They found it later that day, but hey! KOTV news on 6. Bahahaaahaaaaaaa!!!! Still...might wanna keep a firearm handy along with your arsenal.

We had a bear stuck in a tree in the middle of town a couple years ago. My brother ran into one in the gym parking lot and called 911 and they asked if he was causing any damage to property and my brother said no and they said it was no big deal they get calls about it all the time

I am brainstorming here and thinking about AxelFlynn's suggestion and I'm starting to think, why not make a homemade tripwire alarm? Take some old cans, make them into bells, hang them up around the fence and connect them to a fishing line... when something tries to get in, it'll rattle all the bells at once and if the predator isn't scared away by that I'll be out there in a few to get rid of it. I also made a bamboo spear >:) This would be really cheap, too, and I could hang up a few at different heights so it would be set off by big and small animals. This looks like it would work well too http://survival.outdoorlife.com/blo...rvival-skills-build-perimeter-alarm-your-camp

Had to chase away the first predator yesterday... this stupid dog had a cone over his head and made a huge ruckus trying to get into the coop LOL

I need a lot of hardware cloth. Any idea where I could get it cheap? I don't really want to spend $1300 on it... I don't have that much.

Snakes are bad this year and I read about suggestions for this problem and decided to get bird netting for bunching in places to tangle the snake. Well guess what I just found tangled and dead in the netting...a COON! small but still...don't you know I just strung that netting like a fence. So far the chicks see it and don't snag it, so we shall see.

If you lived in Montana I didn't think that you were allowed to have neighbors.
