Okay. I did not know that! I have had black hens before her and currently do have others. But I did not realize the face could be black without more exotic bloodlines. She's possibly an Asian black, but all black or nearly all black chicken sometimes just get dark facial skin. It doesn't necessarily mean they have Silkie or Ayam Cemani blood in them. Chicken genetics can do strange things.
I am not going to lie to you...she MIGHT be from TSC...we hatched some of our own and bought a few around the same time.Did you get her at a feed store? She could be a black sex link. My Charlotte is about 4 months old and had a dark face until about a week or so ago (the red started coming in. I was hoping her wattles and comb would stay closer to black).
Same answer as to CalBickieMommaIf she came from a feed store or hatchery she might be a black sexlink.
Definitely agreeShe's possibly an Asian black, but all black or nearly all black chicken sometimes just get dark facial skin. It doesn't necessarily mean they have Silkie or Ayam Cemani blood in them. Chicken genetics can do strange things.
She could be a mystic onyx.Hey y'all. Here is a hen that has us perplexed. Her face and comb has a large amount of black in it. We believe her to be a mix, but are not sure where the black face.might have come from.
