I assume SpinCycle is a he, considering the fights he's gotten into with my Faverolle. He came from a barnyard mix, so I'm sure he's mixed. I think he's about three weeks old now. Any ideas on what type of chicken he will turn out to be?

The glare messes things up, but his neck feathers are very different compared to his body feathers.

My guess is Rhode Island Red over Easter Eggers or Barred Rocks. The black dappling on his wing feathers that resembles barring is the same feather patterning I get when I crossed my Buff Orp Roo over Easter Egger hens.

Is his comb straight, rose or pea? It looked straight in one pic and rose in another.

It is neat to watch barnyard mixes grow up! Many turn out to be positively stunning birds!

Rhode island red crossed to speckled Sussex was my first thought! Almost certain he is a RIR mix of some type

I think it's a rose. The straightish one may have been my other baby chick. They're pretty much identical these days.

If he's a RIR mix, that may explain why he's so temperamental. He's currently in the running for Top Chicken. For a long while he was in charge, but my other one is getting aggressive.

RIR seems to be the most common mix I end up with somehow. Are they common birds?

I love my mixes, but trying to guess what they might possibly look like as an adult is hard for me. I'm not that familiar with chicken breeds to know. All I know is that they're literal demon babies who happen to be friendly. :p
