Ideas to keep from getting sick?

Quote:
Walmart sells a brand called Spring Valley. They have a variety of vitamins under that brand name. A bottle of 1000 mg. Vitamin C, 100 tablets, is a little more than $3.00. The zinc, 50 mg., also comes in 100 tablet bottles, but is probably a dollar or two more. If you are taking a multi-vitamin you probably don't need to take extra zinc.
Once a year I take a list of the vitamins/supplements I am taking to my doctor so that he knows exactly what I take. Smokers need more Vitamin C vs. non-smokers, because the smoking leeches the C from your system. If you can catch the pharmacist when he's not super busy, most are more than willing to advise you about vitamins and supplements; regardless of whether or not you get prescriptions filled there.

GritsAr, nice to see you back

Thanks hun. I think the "kids" tried to kill me yesterday and this morning! I'll let you know how if I'm really alive or not after a few pots of coffee!

Some days I feel like I could write a book about their antics.

another thing that may help, get a pack of Huggies baby wipes and carry them with you, literally wipe off every doorknob you have to go through (then discard that wipe) ..

I second the "take garlic pills" .. have had most success with Kyolic brand ... there are a couple of components of garlic which act as wide-spectrum antibiotics ... it's supposed to be "odorless" but who cares if it is or not, if it keeps you from getting the crud

vitamin C, yes ... zinc .. may help (I think that's mostly what's in Airborne anyway)

also, Pau d'Arco (Taheebo, Ipe Roxa) tea ... strengthens the immune system, it tastes a bit odd but just think of it as medicine

good luck !

Germs LOVE nasal passages and the mucas membranes in the corners of your eyes. It's like heaven to them. So keep your fingers away from your nostrils and eyes!

Washing your hands is good, but all it takes it one touch of a germ-laden door handle and a quick rub of your eyes to get you sick, sick, sick.

Keep your fingers away from your eyes and nose!

You have heard it all here. Again, WASH hands, DON'T TOUCH your face, eat RIGHT, and get appropriate REST.

Also, stay positive and laugh!!

Yes, it helps to be a label reader. There is a new line of products out that all end with 'MD' such as 'Sleep MD'. If you read the label, you'll find you can buy most of the ingredients (vitamins/minerals) seperately and a whole lot cheaper.
I once had a girl tell me she had to take tylenol PM for sleep vs. just taking plain benadryl. She said she was allergic to benadryl. I had to laugh while explaining to her that tylenol PM is nothing but acetominophen (tylenol) plus diphenhydramine (benadryl).

Thanks everyone! I'm still not sick, but my other friend just came down with the stomach virus. Haha, I'm trying to stay away from everyone so I don't catch anything! I'm going to pick up some Vit C tomorrow when I go to the store. I've been washing my hands like crazy though. Every little itch I get in my throat freaks me out! I so can't afford to get sick!

Honey. Take a teaspoon 2-3 times a week and you will give your immune system a boost. Just make sure it is "local" fresh honey. What is sold in stores by the major brands is not fresh or local. The big boys import honey from china and argentina and mix it in with a little local honey and call it made in the U.S.A. But it has so many chemicals in it that is used in other countries and has been heated so many times that it kills all of the natural enzymes that the bees put into it and it is of no use at all. Also if you can find someone selling comb honey ( just a jar of honey with a piece of the honeycomb in it ) chewing the comp is good for the joints.

WASH YOUR HANDS

DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE ANYWHERE WITHOUT WASHING YOUR HANDS

PRACTICE AND HELP SPREAD THE METHOD OF SNEEZING INTO YOUR ELBOW. NOT YOUR HANDS.

BE AWARE OF GERMY PLACES-SUPERMARKET, DOOR HANDLES, PHONES. AT WORK SPRAY AND CLEAN PHONES, DRAWER HANDLES, ETC.

HOLD YOUR BREATH AROUND SICK PEOPLE. AND WHEN RIDING IN AN ELEVATOR.

DO NOT FLY

I like wipes better than gel. The best thing to get germs off is Friction!!!! Use alot of friction when washing.
