Got these from someone at church. He fed the chicks bacon greese....They are HUGE and FAT! BTW they are only 4 weeks old.

Im kinda afraid there livers and kidneys are fried because of the high fat diet so early on...He didnt know what they were, I was wondering if you could tell me?

Any information on how I could get them in shape and healthy would be appreciated.

They are Cornish Cross, a broiler bird. Their lives rarely last longer that 6 -8 weeks before slaughter. You can keep them longer but you have to control the amount of feed and supply calcium and other mineral supplements.

Definately a broiler bird, Cornish cross. Basically a meathouse chicken. They need a high protein diet as they grow quickly for butchering and generally start to cripple up after a couple of months.once in awhile someone will have some luck in raising some without crippling.usually with very low protien feed on a regular feed basis instead of free fed.

Ugh...not what I wanted to hear lol but I had an idea that they were broiler, because of there size already...These guys have to constantly eat dont they?

With a light on and everything...I guess its time for me to go over to the broiler section of the forum.

Yep, sorry to bear the bad news. They do indeed eat a LOT but if you restrict their diet, they won't grow as fast and have as likely of an unexpected death caused by heart attacks or leg breakage.

Lmao thanks for more good news Illia.

They are kinda clumsy too arent they? I saw them earlier stumbling around and falling on eachother.

My RIRs that I have in the hutch right now just hop right over them.

The RIRs also peck at them sometimes its kinda funny to see a bird half their size picking on them.
