Hi,
Asking for help identifying my peahen and peachick.
I bought the male as a IB
Female is meant to be a BS
They just had 5 babies and 1 looks to be a Pied.
I am no expert so looking forward to your help.

Thank you all in advance

KsKingbee...
So you think my female might be a coloured bird not a BS? And to get a Pied chick both parents must be Split Pied?
Still trying to get my head around all the genetics.

Look forward to more responses.

You hit the jackpot but it will be some time before you know what you have. The breeder of the parents should be of some help if they keep any records. The cock has to be IB Dark Pied with a split to a color. Dark Pieds do not have to have any white on them and split to a color mutation is not seen so he appears to be just a plain ol IB, but you can see that he is not. The hen is obviously Black Shoulder and can now be identified as Dark Pied. No hen can be split to a sex-linked color so the chick got its color from dads split color mutation. It is light in color like Cameo, Peach, or maybe Purple so my best guess is the chick is likely one of those colors and obviously Pied. And if this is the case the chick is also a hen as it takes two parents of a sex-linked color to produce a male. Time will tell. If it gets purple or blue on the back of the neck it is Purple Pied, if it does not get any on the back of the neck it is Cameo or Peach. @Rosa moschata what say you?

Thanks for your very informative reply. I'm very happy with the future potential of my new babies.
Will post some update pics in a few months

Neither parent needs to be Dark Pied to have a Pied chick. One parent could be split to Pied, the other split to White, and you have a 1/4 chance of having a Pied chick. The male could be split to a sex-linked mutation (or two), and in that case, half of his daughters would show that mutation (or those mutations, if more than one). Since the mom is BS, that means the chick is also split to BS, btw.

:)
