HI all -
We've had chickens for years and I've never encountered this problem. Ordered a dozen chicks from My Pet Chicken. All were very healthy and no deaths, but this little Buff Orpington demonstrated this strange behavior from the beginning. When she was a few days old, it was all day long, and primarily noticea
ble after she drinks. Called the company and they did not "diagnose" either.
We had a lamb last year who suffered (greatly) from Stargazer disease, which, after treating him around the clock with injections for three weeks, the little guy recovered from. That's what we originally thought this was. So, we added chick vitamins with thiamine to the water, which seemed to help.
She is now 7 weeks, and is thriving. Occasionally she will tilt her head way back and walk back and forth this way, but I'm the only one who seems to see this behavior. Just this morning I caught this pic of her after she drinks. You can see that her head folds back all the way until it is touching her back.
Is this wry neck? Is this little girl in pain? Other than this, she is thriving, eating, drinking, socializing, and is one of my sweetest, friendliest new flock members. She also does not take any heat from the other hens - she holds her own socially.
Please feedback!
