Hello,

We are new to chick raising and have recently adopted 2 chicks - Ziggy (black chick) and Torchic (yellow chick). They’re about 3 weeks old. Could you please help me identify their breed and sex? I hope these pictures are good enough. They are not always the most cooperative. 😅

Thank you!!!

I agree it's too early to determine sex. The paler chick looks to have a beard. I'm thinking it is an Easter egger. Not sure on the black chick but hopefully it will be clearer in a few weeks.
Thank you! I’m trying to be patient about knowing if they’re male/female. I know the black chick came from a small blue egg. 🤷‍♀️ My son said the yellow chick came from a big white egg.

Thank you! What age is best to make a safe guess? I’ve seen so many different things on how to tell if they’re male/female from all different ages.

Update - Chicks will be 3 weeks on Friday. So, I suppose I really am too early on wanting to know breed and sex. Will post again in a couple weeks. 😁
Here are some pictures of our cuties from today.

They are cute! 6 weeks is about the earliest for sexing unless you have an obvious male with a huge comb at a younger age. These two aren't looking anything like that.
Thanks! So, fingers crossed, they’re both pullets.

Sometimes roosters feather in slower than hens. Based on that sexing method the black one is a hen and the white one is a rooster. But that is just a guess I can give you a confident answer around week six
