Identifying a grey gander split for buff

Is it possible to identify a Wildtype+ Grey gander who is heterozygous (split) for buff by looking at him? As in will he have some buff feathers mixed in with the dark grey feathers if you look closely?

There is zero visible difference between a grey and a grey that carries the buff gene.

That's what I thought, I have a couple here who are split but visually the same as the rest but I thought there may be a way of telling them apart that I had not heard of
