Below are some pictures of our new little hatchling. We have a mix in my coop (splash silkie, smoke (i think?) silkie, frizzled buff/gold silkie, silkie with black/brown feather, silkie with predominantly black feathers with a sprinkling of brown in areas, mottled cochin, and black silkie). We also have big birds but we made sure to take out those eggs because we don't want them to hatch. This little one has the extra toe and has feathers on the feet/toes. Going by the coloring I'm thinking it is a mottled cochin mix. From what I listed above do you have a guess what it could be?
I love that it's beak is partly a different color as I don't think any of my other birds have that.

It generally helps if you tell which ones are the roosters, and which are the hens.

With the 5th toe, it is probably has at least one Silkie parent.
If it grows Silkie-type feathers, then it has two Silkie parents.
If it grows normal feathers, it has at least one parent with normal feathers.

I would guess one parent is black, and the other could be anything on your list. A Mottled Cochin is "black" for this purpose, because the mottling gene is recessive and won't show in chicks that get the not-mottled gene from their other parent.

Honestly, I just assumed one of the parents is a mottled cochin because of the coloring. As well as the fact that I don't really see too much of a vaulted skull. And all but one of my silkies have a vaulted skull. It's still very young so I don't know about the feather type. Some of the silkies in that pen do have similar coloring.

You might be right about the mottled cochin parent. I just can't tell at this stage.

When it grows enough that you can tell the feather type, you will know quite a bit more about who the parents must be :)

Ah thank you!! I hope I am right! I love mottled cochins, and my mottle cochin roo has such a personality (his name is Kingpin and he's a tiny guy). Love him.

Very excited to see it grow and watch what it grows into. I love it's little beak! I've never had a chicken with a beak that is two different colors. Hoping that doesn't somehow go away as it gets older lol.
