Identity crisis...

Drakes have no real competition when penned together, you may get the odd 1 or 2 trying to compete to be the 'boss' but unless there are females around there really is next to no fighting. We currently have 20 males penned together, absolutely no issues.

What do you do with all those boys? I read your blog great news about the 2 Runners doing so well.

Beautiful Runners by the way.

Thanks Lydia!

We are striving to have the most diverse flock of Runner Ducks in North America. We just purchased some of the last black and blue runners from Holderread's and are importing them into Canada.

To answer your question, we are hoping to keep 3 sets of breeding pairs per colour variety and breed the best ducks that we can. All we were missing was blues and now we have some of the best in the world coming. Next project I am working on is harlequin runners.

Too bad ya don't breed call ducks. I can't find anyone that'll give me a single duckling or hatching egg. :/

As for Wobbles, still at a loss. She/he is still rasping, yet the tail is still straight as an arrow. Either I have a tomboy, or a metrosexual.

Amykins have you been to your state thread? I know you probably have but had to ask. might want to wait though if your not sure if Wobbles is boy or girls.

Well they are absolutely gorgeous, my second choice of duck if I ever get to have another breed. Came by Muscovy's through someone dumping some drakes into the river down below us, so till they all die of old age I don't wan to add Runners since my flocks all run together, talking chickens and geese added to the mix, but I have always loved Runners they are so unique. All started because Amiga posted a video of hers one winter and that made me fall in love. Hope you'll continue to post pics along the way love looking at all the different variety of colors Runners come in. I assume you show yours?

I did, but it's not exactly active in there. :/ Why is it so hard to find one single duck? No matter what I'm gonna have to wait until the Spring, so we'll definitely know Wobs' gender by then.

I've heard no mater what if it quacks it's a girl but who knows they can be tricky to tell sometimes I have a similar issue with my blue swedish duck... still sounds like a baby and it's 12 weeks old

At Wobbles' age I dunno if there'd be a point. Besides, she hates having her butt touched, and wiggles like an inchworm if you try! At 4 1/2 months, wouldn't the drake feather already be prominent by now? Do drake feathers manifest at first molt, or do they not curl until the second, final molt?
