The aluminum ones can bend easier, but they make brass ones too. A bird would have a hard time removing the brass ones, they're pretty tough.

The one I showed was pulled off by a cock bird, I will probably order the brass ones next time.

The brass ones I've had seem to be a lot tougher than the aluminum ones.

Does anyone use anything other than zip ties?

I use zip ties, but as @Chef JimmyJ said, they can do a lot of damage if you don't keep an eye on them.

I've used zip ties/cable ties for decades. I put them just tight enough they can't slip it over their foot. Get the good ones, the cheep ones can get brittle and break off.

Can you please tell us which ones are the good ones. Sears, Walmart, and TSC all suck. Can you you refer us to something better?

Read the packaging and look for OUTDOOR or indoor/outdoor. The outdoor ones are UV resistant and last longer.
