What you are seeing as pointy feathers is actually an optical illusion with laced patterned birds.
The darker color inside the feather looks pointed but the actual feather is rounded.

It's helpful with these patterns, or with white or black, to put your hand -- or a sheet of paper -- under the feathers so you can see the true shape.
