So this is only my second day on here but I am learning so much. I have been raising chickens for a while but in a moment of desperation I joined because of my mocha who passed 2 nights ago. :( anyway, I received a small rooster from someone and I have no clue what it is! It's brownish red with some whispy white fuzzy feathers here and there. The feathers around the neck come forward (think a lions mane) and make the back of his neck look bald. He's very ornery and cranky all the time until I can actually hold the little guy and he calms down and actually becomes very sweet. He is full grown but super small.

It looks like some kind of bantam frizzle maybe frazzle something. Can you get a better picture of it's feet and comb?

I just looked up a pic of a frizzle and that's him all right. Down to his fuzzy feet. He has a lot of missing feathers on his wings though. They look like skeletons. The shaft is there but no fuzzy stuff around it. And when we received it the guy said it was supposed to be a hen... But his actions toward my hens and his occasional cock a doodle doo suggest otherwise.

It's a mixed breed with frizzled feathers. A lot of people will call it frizzle simply because it has frizzled feathers and looks roughly like the most common frizzled bird- frizzle cochins. But it's not a cochin either because it has a pea comb. Cochins don't have that.

Frizzled cochin mixed with ?? is a good guess. Hard part is figuring out what could have contributed the pea comb- most common bantam breeds with pea combs are bantam brahmas and bantam cornish.

If you breed him and some of his daughters lay blue or green eggs, then he has easter egger blood..

Our hens unfortunately do not care for him at all. He is usually off by himself unless he gets a wild hair and decides to try to woo the ladies but it never works out for him they peck him and fly off. :( I feel kinda bad for him. Do frizzlea have an extra toe like silkies? Because he does and then sort of a nub... Like a toe and a half.
