Idle rumination about buying PopTarts from a smoke shop

There is one in Phelan that is a smoke/donut/chinese food shop. Serious.

There's a gun shop/dry cleaner combination in the town in which I used to work.

Get this. That same shop was invaded by the IRS. Owed 9.8 million in back taxes. And they are STILL open.

Good grief - $9.8 million? The smoke-flavored duck-sauce donut business must pay REALLY well.

I'd also like to know how they got the IRS off their backs (if they did). Free kung pao for life, baby!

I am not invested in it enough to care, really. I just find it funny that they can still operate. Phelan is a VERY small town, so public demand may have made it necessary. Residents would have to drive about 15 miles to get to another smoke shop and the residents of Phelan are not the most economically enhanced.

Smoke shops have NOT changed all that much from the 70s, at least not in California, what with medical marijuana "pharmacies" cropping - hehehehehe - up all over. In the same place where I can buy stale PopTarts and my brand, flavor and size of cigarette (Virginia Slims, "Silver" or ultra-light menthol, 120s) one can buy hookahs, bongs, pipes, clips, papers, rollers, screens, oh, just anything you need to enjoy your loose leaf tobacco or legal marijuana. Some of the blown glass articles are absolutely gorgeous.

The little mini-mart, gas staion within walking distance of my house has a surprising array of hard liquor brands in addition to juat about any kind of beer and a few, select wine labels. (Big wine country.) plus all the Slim Jims you could possibly want.

TP, paper plates and plastic utensils, soda, cans o' soup, bags o' rice, marshmallows.... An eclectic mix. But very limited cigarette selection. Lots of chaw, though!
