does that mean it is a cockerel? Also, one of my chicks seem to make a different sound then the others its hard to describe but its almost like a purrrrrr. Do these signs mean roo?

I have little ones that do that too. It is so adorable but I was wondering the same thing. Thanks for asking that question.

The 1st time I heard one of my chicks 'purr' I thought I was l imagining it.

I ran all over the house trying to find someone to go see if they heard it, too. Didn't get any volunteers, but I looked it up and found out it is something they do when they are very content. I hear it most especially when they are falling asleep or just after a dust bath. My 'purrs' come from my pullets.

Whenever I see any of my chicks extend their necks and open their mouths, it seems that they are just trying to swallow something. I've observed my most frequent preener do this quite a bit.. I think he is just trying to coax a little bit of pin feather down his throat
