I had one do the barking thing tonight! It was one of my BR's and all the other chicks froze in place while it 'barked' and were silent the entire time.

Oddly enough, it was when my DH came down to talk to me and see the chicks......hhmmm

After treat time, my little ones will lie down in the sun and "purr," or when I'm holding one of my special ones in my lap it will start to purr. I haven't heard "barking" yet, though.

On another note, I do have a dog that crows - my Aussie will howl when one of my roosters crows. She only does it when Rocky crows. I'm guessing he hits a note that she objects to.

Needless to say I am an adult now and I just got my first peep. This little thing is so affectionate, I have no idea what breed he or she is and it doesn’t really matter because I love it so much. To the OP; my chicks will sometimes do that same thing, sometimes with a scratch to the throat. I always assumed that they were encouraging a stuck piece of something to go down.
