Okay, I need some information. My peahen Gordy has been sitting on 3 eggs since July 13th, which means by August10th we should start seeing some signs of hatching, right? iF they hatch, what do I need to do? Her nest is in my fenced in back yard, safe from predators.

Thank you for the variety of topics. Although my main concern I guess is should I intervene if the eggs actually hatch? She 'appeared' in my yard (along with another female) on May 30th.

well most birds raise their babies for 5 or 6 weeks...peafowl actually have to teach the chicks how to eat and drink....you can get some game starter from a feed store mama will do the rest...good luck...my experience is the mamas are the best choice to raise any bird!

I would make a covered pen with a covered run....we made ours with pvc pipe and the smallest pvc chicken net....keep the ground clean...add poultry vitamins to their water....don't expect to see the babies actually eating or drinking until they're 2 or 3 days old....you can give them and mama boiled eggs too! you don't really have any idea if the eggs she's sitting on are fertile unless you know she's been with a male...didn't you say she just showed up?

Yes, she and another peahen just showed up may 30th, eggs were laid July 13th. Before she laid the eggs they both would come and go in the back yard. They would both return in the evening to roost in our trees. Thanks again for the advice. Any additional info is greatly appreciated. This is all new territory but I am enjoying the journey!

do a favor...if you do get babies post pictures!!
