If anyone agrees with me that Easter Eggers are more than just mutts respond to this thread NOW

I like EE. I just ordered some today...

The brown eggs will lay green eggers since the dads were blue egger gene.

I’m doing research to see if the EEs at some higher quality hatcheries are from their original (Chilean) ancestry. Kinda sad because at this point even if they were a specific thing, they are all most likely mixes and even then there’s probably no telling between the original ones :(

Easter eggers were always a mix of South American breeds and American breeds. But the old ones, before the advent of olive eggers and Legbar type Easter eggers, had a definite type, and were more than just mutts. I've heard those called a land race before, and that fits.

The Easter eggers of the past, which were called simply Araucanas for a long time, almost always had pea combs, beards, and close feathering. Green legs, usually, too, and a medium size. Nowadays they seem a lot more variable.

I’m a duck sort of person rather than a chicken sort of person. I like chickens. I just don’t own them. However, I’ve always wondered about the hatred towards the poor dear EE. I can’t count how many posts I’ve read where some poor soul has been told that their beloved bird is “just” an EE, not whatever fancy breed they were led to believe it was. They seem like perfectly beautiful birds! I don’t think anyone gets in a fervor about duck breeds in the same way. No one ever tells anyone that their duck is “just” a barnyard mix, at least not in the same almost shaming way. So, I guess I’ll stand up for the dear Easter Eggers!
