Hi, all. I have looked and looked, here and on the 'net. Is there any place that has growth-charts (photos) of chickies?

Maybe I am mistaken in not searching by "poultry..."

Anyway--I have a new BR. I have my guesses on age, and want to know what you all think.

I posted a pic of her that was taken 9 May (I had gotten her the day before):

Here is another I took this evening (3 June) just quickly. She will hop onto my lap if I pat it and call her--it was the only I hope I had of getting one, since she was busy playing "tag" with me and messing up her newly-tidied digs (the unused tub):

Thank you!

Between 5-6 weeks old is my best guess.

I'm afraid she is a he though.

I'm guessing if it was a few days old on May 9th...then it's probably 4 or 5 weeks old now...and I'm wondering if people are saying Roo because it has more of a 'waddle' thingy on it's head??? I'm pretty sure mine is a girl...

Ruh-roh.

You know...I had a young BR (the avatar), and when I saw the comb, I started suspecting. And when baby was picked on by one of the banties and the comb flushed, I REALLY suspected. Then this evening, when it was FINALLY bed-time, I noticed reddish coloring around the beak (waddles-to be).

So this is WEIRD. Last night I dreamt about baby. The head/face resembled the character in that show, "Mask" (big, heavy jaw--only feathered).

I would not mind having a little boy, and I am VERY attached to this little one. We have what are called "animal rights," and I THINK I can have a rooster (IMO, "animal rights" means if they are fed, housed, cared for, there are your "rights").

Plus we have a lot of city-slickers moving here where people have horses, donkeys, and what-all...and gripe about it. So...move to a big city where you cannot have horses, donkeys, chickens, geese, or whatever breed of dog people are scared of. Sheesh.

If animal control comes around, I could just tell the truth: I have a hen that crows. (I do!)

Or I can do like that woman who keeps a Silkie, puts diapers on him, takes him for rides, and puts on Luciano Pavarotti when she is not home.

Heheheh.

Thank you SO much, all!!

In the first pic of him the day after you got him, it looked like he was almost a week old due to the tiny wing feathers. He had a HUGE spread out white spot on his head also.

All three of my BR pullets are indeed pullets and have remained my most favorite. They are so outgoing and friendly and want to be close to see what you got or what your doing.

Good luck with your little fella.

Thank you again

I had read conflicting information on the white spots on BR chicks: blurred, clear... Anyway, no matter. I had two BR hens, and they were just darling. Of course, the "little fella" is darling, too! He is so playful, and loves his special trips around the yard (especially if he can go into the veg garden for "free play" and "help" me weed--although he doesn't really help!).

I have a neighbor who has given me three of the six hens I have had recently; he does not have so many BR roosters, IIRC. He has a place up north where is is taking all his chooks pretty quick, so...

It will all come out in the wash...way past bedtime, so good night--and thanks again!
