If I get a few adult Coturnix quail can I let them out of the coop sometimes??

Here's a good story for you. One evening I'm headed to Bob Whites House to collect eggs I noticed that one was out running around well I tried to catch him but he ran off into some thick cover. It was getting dark so I gave up. That night around 3 AM I woke up grabbed my flashlight & headed for Bob's House. Their he was sitting by the pen. Got the net & caught him & put him into the pen. Couldn't figure out how he got out.Tripled checked for a whole in the pen but found no wholes. Then about two weeks later same thing another bob was running around the pen. This time I put out my recovery cage & low & behold 10 minutes later I caught him & put him into the pen. I haven't seen wild Bob's around my farm in years. But what was happening was the caged Bob's were calling up the wild Bob's. One thing that I've learned is after my Bob's have lived in their pen for over a year I'm not sure they want to fly away. I honestly think if they did get out & nothing harmed them they would come back . I mean their not gonna leave all their girlfriends stranded. After spending their entire life in their pen they only know the pen as their home. Now, younger Bob's they would probably fly off & never come back. You never know though.

We just lost 2 of our junior Cortinix females sometime between last night and this morning. Seems apparently I forgot to lock the pen door last night and all 7 either flew out or more likely fell out as the pen is raised about 3.5 ft off the ground. Michael was able to catch 5 of the 7 but wouldn't you know it ended up being 2 of the 3 females missing. We searched everywhere in our little "farm" area plus the back yard and front yard but nothing. Makes me sad they are gone. Although I've no signs of feathers, they might have somehow found a small opening in the fence and got into my neighbor's backyard full of big dogs and horses. But I would suspect a cat or a hawk might have had quail for breakfast though. We were getting ready next weekend to process all the males in that 7 group bc it's time overdue for our 14 to come out of the brooder and into that pen so we can prepare to incubate more eggs. With only this one hen left I'm not sure if I'll try to integrate her with the 14 or what. I have 3 senior quail who are the parents to both my 7 jrs and my younger 14. We don't want to line or inbreed them, so I'm going to buy a couple new males to keep fresh bloodlines and process any males we produce. Oops sorry I got so long winded. Just love bird talk with others that understand:)

Hi I am planning to get a couple of Coturnix quail. They will already be adults
Unless you have raised them or tamed them yourself, letting them out isn't a good idea as they will instantly run away.

I wanted to know if I can let them out of the coop sometimes.
Sometimes, if observing the quail in an enclosed area then maybe you can do it. You should also make sure they can't get through the fencing and due to their size the grass shouldn't be long and the enclosure shouldn't be big.

Will they fly away?
They usually only fly away when frightened. Though when you go to catch them they'll most likely get scared.

Are they like the bobwhites, that they fly away if you let them out?
They don't usually fly straight away when let out, they'll probably stay near their pen or look around for a bit. If you have birds that fly above the enclosure the quail will try to hide.

If I clip their wings can I let them out? please reply.
Probably, if the area is enclosed and there is no way to escape. Remember, quail are ground bird that will run away and less likely fly away.

Same exact story for me, same species and everything. I am dealing with some major weirdness lol)
