If i got chickens what would i pick.....

If i got chickens and i got them out of a feed store, (not ordered though), what do you think i should or would pick... i would have to pick only 4.... and sooo far our feed store has had delawares, BO, EE, RIR, silkies, BR, brown leghorns, NHR, and brown leghorn, and i think thats all but they could get different kinds thought... idk

ok now for my list.......

Buff orpington

Barred rock'

EE (ameraucana but i know the truth...

)

Delaware

WHite leghorn

speckled sussex

silver laced wyandotte'

and golden laced wyandotte



these should be good layers, nice egg basket, and friendly, and quiet

I did lots of reading, studying and asked A LOT of questions...I wanted eye candy in the yard and the nest.

Here's what I decided on:
1. RIR--nice med to dark brown eggs and dh love them
2. Barred Rock--I love the barring and the med. brown egg
3. Buff Opingtions-I like their personalities, they are beautiful and they lay all different colors of brown eggs--from a pinky to a dark brown.
4. true Blue Ameraucanas (I know the difference also

)-I love the gray color and the blue eggs..

Our flock 'king' will be a Blue Ameraucana,so, when I decide I need pure chicks, I just pull the blue eggs and my chicks will be true...

Barred Rock and EE's are a definite!

I've heard good things about the rest, but I would either choose a Wyandotte, Orpington, or the Sussex.

I LOVE my buff orpingtons. I also adore my sussex. So, I guess I would pick a BO(x2), SS, and EE. If the store does not have the SS I would do maybe a BR or two EE and two BO. It just depends on what you want out of your chickens, lots of eggs, or showy plumage, or winter hardy, etc. My primary traits are birds that are friendly(my mom is quite afraid of birds, esp. when they fly), good layers, lovely to look at, and winter hardy. Hope that helps!!

thats what i was thinking ( BO EE EE and BR)... that would be IF i could GET chickens.....
