If I keep my Roo up later will he sleep in?

My roo finally stopped crowing at 4 Am. He would wake up at 4 crow, then he would shut up for about an hour then start again and up for the day. Finally one day he crowed and we heard quite a racket from the coop, he shut up. Hasn't crowed that early since. I think the hens beat him up, to teach him to wait for at least the crack of dawn. I am just happy for him to wait for a bit...

Mine are right outside my bedroom window. I know.

One of the roosters starts really early and finally he wakes up the other one and he starts crowing. To make matters worse this early rooster has the worst crow I have ever heard....at the end it is pitiful sounding. Over and over......

But I like my chickens, even the roosters. Plus, if something messes with them in the night I would hear them and the 22 is right under my side of the bed and the window does not have a screen on it and I am looking down somewhat at the coop....feel like I could get a couple of shots off and scare something off.

i built my rooster a sound proof box that only he sleeps in lol. then when i get up around 8 or whatever time i let him out and he can crow all he wants

Mine are also right outside the bedroom window. Hence why DH is not so thrilled with 5am wakeup calls...lol.

Ok...so I installed a 24 foot LED rope light in the coop today. It is on a programable digital timer, but it is not set yet. Have it on manual for right now. Need to go figure out sunrise/sunset hours for here to make sure I schedule the right amount of light for them. It puts out about the same light as a 50-60 watt bulb without the heat/danger and it is outdoor safe. I am excited and hopeful...keeping fingers crossed. I haven't gotten any eggs yet so this will hopefully help with production as well. They should all be around 5 months at least. They were born this spring ;o)

If this doesn't do the trick I may look you up for instructions to build that sound proof box stumble_n_mumble!

I bought rope lights too and plan to put them up after my DH gets in from working out of state....right after he stops laughing at me. He can't quit! His theory is that they are just chickens....I say they are MY chickens and I have to take care of them.

Wish he was here to be woken up at 530 every morning!

Oh....and I bought a timer too....another little surprise for him....

lol ill show pictures! if you have ever put speakers in the back of your car with the wooden box with the cut outs of the holes in them where the speakers go. i used one of those because there meant for sound! then i covered the holes with plexi-glass.... we can NOT hear him in the morning and we can see him crowing but its like we pushed mute!

Here's my 2 story chicken condo in the daylight. The upstairs is approx 4' x 4' x 3'ish or better in front and is slanted toward the back.
