If I put a pool out for my ducks will the chickens be ok around it?

Chickens cannot swim and don't float. If the water is deep enough and they get in it, they will drown.

Don't tell that to all the chickens that swim! They apparently didn't know that they can't swim and would only drown.....

Here on the BYC website is proof that THAT is an erroneous myth!

Here's my favorite from member Keltara with numerous pictures of the family's wonderful Orpingtons in the act of NOT SWIMMING!.

Additionally, a GOOGLE search for 'swimming chickens' (images) will turn up numerous other photos of chickens in the act of NOT SWIMMING...

Point for OP is, that they do have a limited ability to float, but if they can't get out of the water they will drown.

My chooks have access to the river, they avoid it. Haven't seen any of them doing the backstroke, yet, lol. However I have lost chicks , in the drinking trough. If your worried put a couple of bricks in the bottom to create an island, just in case someone falls in.

I agree with all the posters! Adults, as long as they have a way to climb out, will not drown. However, my neighbor has lost numerous chicks to drowning as the water dishes were just too deep. Putting bricks in the bottom sounds like a great solution to me, but still may not stop a very young chick from drowning.

I will not be putting the pools in their run just out in the yard when they free range. I will do the bricks though. How young is too young to be around water? What do you mean drowned in their water? I am getting my first chicks Thursday.

I have lost a few to drowning, falling in or being inadvertently pushed in. I keep them locked off the main pen and / or put rocks or bricks in all of the water troughs. This year I am going to try water cups. I found it best to keep the ducks separate from my chicks, because they make a lot of mess and wet everything.

My spouse and i keep our chickens and ducks together. We put a few bricks to make steps so when our young chicks fell in they would have a way out. we have yet to loose a chick from drowning in the pool. Our pool is in the chicken run. The chicks, older chickens and ducks all drink from and play in the pool.
