If I sit and supervise free ranging... Are they safe from hawks?

Perhaps I'll bring both dogs out. We live in a pretty wooded area full of hawks and bald eagles. The run is next to the house and there are no trees or bushes for them to take cover. I'll have to keep my eye on the sky. I see a lot of birds up there circling the sky frequently.

Thats a pretty brave hawk to take a mouse in between two people! I hadn't seen it on AFV.

i've not lost a chicken to a hawk while I was outside, however I have had hawks attack while I was out there. They don't seem to care that I am 20 feet away.....If you were actually watching specifically for them and had something you could throw, you would probably be okay. Unless they are itty bitty, the hawk would have to attack and kill and then eat it on the spot.
