I have a 7 month old hen whose gone broody. She’s only sitting on three eggs and I want to stop her but I’m afraid it will discourage her from going broody again. I’d love to have her brood a clutch, but just not yet.
What has you’re experience been, when you stop a broody, does she go broody again , or does it put a long halt on them going broody again?

She will go broody again. If you have a rooster don't let those eggs incubate for too long as that will kill embryos. Give her dud eggs if you need to (and mark them). Also when she goes broody and you do want chicks remember you can always buy some very young babies and give them to her at around 21 days, it is more predictable and gives you the gender/breeds that you want.

I got her off and took away the eggs, she went back to sitting in the box?

You need to lower he body temperature or she will go right back. Do you have a dog crate with a wire bottom? Put her in that for about three days with no nesting material. Put it up on blocks so air circulates around and under her to keep her cool. Give her a chunk of 4x4 if you have it for her to roost on. Provide food and fresh water, and grit. Let her out once a day to scratch, stretch, poop and dust bathe. If she goes back to the nest, put her back in the cage. Good luck!

I have her in a crate now. She was definitely broody. She puffed up and yelled at me and gave me half a dozen pecks before I could get her off of her nest. I let her out for an hour to scratch and she went back onto the nest again, so back into the crate she went! She has food and water, a perch, and plenty of ventilation in there.
