I have a broody with 3 chicks under her, but she's not doing a great job of mothering them. Can I just take the chicks away from her? Or do I need to cage her or something?

wow what i could do its to take the chiks away b4 she kills them and for her to go normal i dont know what metod you guys have but what i've learn from my uncle its to give her a cold bath , yes put her in a buket with cold water let her inside for about a minute ans she will come up just normal altho it sounds cruel i have not done it cus all my hen are beatiful mamas..

OK, I took the chicks so they would be safe. When they hatched she left 2 of them out on the nest and they were all cold, they would have died if my ds didn't put them back under her. But for 2 days now she hasn't taken good care of them. She's still sitting on an empty nest. Do I leave her there? How long should it take her to recover?

She wouldn't get off the nest, so I put her out in the yard with the other hens and locked her out of the coop. Hope that works.
