If im supposed to turn eggs 3 times a day, does the time i set it count as one turn?

Can this apply for quail eggs? And also what do you mean by not always in the same direction? Does it mean like sometimes when you go from x to o alternating going from left and to right and sometimes you do it from right to left?
Depends on which species of quail eggs your incubating.
Coturnix have an incubation period of 16 to 19 days.
Bobwhites 23 to 24 days
Gamble's 23 to 24 days
California Valley 23 to 25 days
Mountain 24 to 26 days
I incubate at 100°F and 43% Rh, I increase the Rh to 55 to 60% for the last 3 or 4 days of incubation.
I use auto turners.

Okay thank you, can i just do it randomly like sometimes left or right?
Doesn't matter which way you turn them as long as the opposite side is up each time. Otherwise the chick may become stuck to the inner membrane of the shell. Doesn't reaaly matter if it is precise. as long as the egg has a different spot on top.

There’s actually a scientific study of rotating goose eggs. They compared rotating along the short axis versus routine along the long axis and there was a significant advantage if you rotate along the short axis. It is better not to do it randomly, sometimes less sometimes right. Of course your hens do not do anything in such a regular way they simply use their feet to move the eggs around but they moved around fairly frequently and they seem to know what they’re doing.

For the first three days the eggs do not need any turning. On the contrary, they should be left alone.
Turning of the eggs will start the morning of day four and from then on 3-5 times daily, last turn on the morning of day 18 (for normal sized chicken eggs). Always make sure to turn the eggs back and forth and not always in the same direction. It is best to mark both sides (X and O) to know which side to turn.
That is how I do it for 20+ years and my hatch rates are very good.

Others will have other routines working for them, of course.
Hi, Is this your recipe for eggs that wasn't shipped?

Yes.

For shipped eggs:
Upright position without turning for the first three days.

Start turning carefully on day 4.

Temperature depends on the egg size 37.6-37.7 °Celsius for my KingSuro ( automatic), but 37.8 for my Jaeger incubator where I have to turn the eggs manually.

Humidity depending on condition of the air cells.
45% for the first 8-10 days, then 48% until day 18.
Then depending on the breed and the size and condition of the air cells 37.5 °C for both kinds of incubators from day 18 on and humidity ranging from 62-65% for BCM or Olive egger eggs, and 65-72 %for other breeds and porous eggs.

In case of very detached or saddled air cells make sure to slowly turn the eggs by hand in a way that the loosened membranes will be well moistened all around once on day 10 and then again before laying the eggs in the final hatching position with the air cell pointing upwards on lockdown day.
