Hey everyone.
New(ish) flock owner here….

We were dealing with what we thought was mites, and so we DE’d our run and coop, and started feeding feather fixer about a month ago. Unfortunately, I think our girls are only looking worse. Any thoughts our suggestion?

We have 26 girls, and it seems to be affecting most of them.

Are they molting?

If they are truly mites the DE won't fix it. You need to use Permethrin based poultry spray or poultry dust

Welcome to BYC!

Over the wings is an odd place for mites. Look closely at the bare areas. Are there any new feathers growing?

Do a vent check for parasites. Check the skin below the vent, all the way down between their legs. If they do have parasites, DE isn't going to get rid of them. You will need a permethrin product for actual results.

Were these girls with a rooster previously or do you have a rooster?
The feather damage/loss on top of the wings is generally seen due to mating.

Looks like picking, mating damage to me. As the year passes on, they may even look worse.

Feathers are worn, broken off, stripped and damaged. None of those will be replaced until the birds go through a molt. No matter what you feed.
"Feather Fixer" is just a layer feed with a little extra protein (18%) instead of the usual 16%, brilliant marketing for sure. Reality is feed is not going to "Fix" feathers that are already damaged, you'll have to wait it out.

See that your birds are eating/drinking well, that they are not overcrowded, have room to roost and roam about in their enclosure/space.
