I’m a very confused person right now. The link showed me a blue button saying post new thread, the actual page you go to it’s green with different wording.
I’m confused on how this forum works I’m still trying to work out how to post!
I am a duck enthusiast, and in fairness most types of chickens ducks and birds, I’ve spent a lot of my time rehabilitating wild ducks and rescuing the flightless ones from areas that even a duck with the ability to fly could struggle to get into
I used to breed and hatch quail, chickens and ducks- my 5 year old was watches in awh when I the tell him stories of walking my ducklings to the local park without a lead (which he finds amazing)
So, at school they hatched some chicken eggs, did the whole “we lost a chick, Make a poster to put up and help people find it”
The chick of course wasn’t lost But the kids didn’t know that. That was last year and he still reminds me they found the chicken.
We decided , thanks to me being easy to convince, that we would go and hatch some ducks.
Next month it’s chicken, and tiny ones at that. But this month it’s runner ducks. I had two as a pet when young as I hatched them, sadly it was a bad hatch and out of 12 only two seemed to be fertile. They went everywhere with me, unless it wasn’t safe or legal.
We kept them and gave them free roam of the secured yard, even bought a silly water feature to keep them entertained and happy,
But it had to be not too deep, so it was a hassle getting one suitable.
We had those outdoor solar lights under the paving slabs that one of the ducks was obsessed with.
So anyway, we have 6 runner duck eggs, a larger garden with more “duck kitting out” been done, and 6 more arriving soon.
I love them, and I want my son to witness the whole hatching and raising and hopefully learn from it.
I will be the first they see upon hatching, it’s evident, he has school, and around bedtimes, but currently he’s doing everything right and he’s reading books about them, about everything.
I’m excited to be on here to read and learn more about the confusing things I’ve seen, in one book they are flightless, then they aren’t, in the next, and in all fairness- you’d think a book would get it right.
Sorry for my massive introduction, but we are on day 4 of our first lot and very excited to talk about it!
All hatched ducks have homes set up for them and we will be keeping some of them. We aren’t doing this just for fun, we would never take pets on in egg form or any form without intending to give them the best life here or someone else.
Thank you for reading this rant, and I can’t wait to finally work out how to post myself
