Can someome please explain? This is a photo of my two 'hens', the one in the back is the one I thought was a roo but all of you said 'hen'. I believe all of you, I do.. but I can't figure out why then they look SO different. They're both the same age, from the same place and both supposedly hens... is it just a variation of breed? Is one of them crossed? Is one just ugly? I don't get it.

I don't know anything about Barnvleders, but I sure see your point. The one following behind does look quite rooish compared to the other.
 
Well... I don't know who was giving their opinion but they weren't very experienced. The one in the back is a cockerel. Males tend to feather out slower than the females. Just a sex thing.
 
They said my roo had to be a hen because of it's colouring; but the feathers, the waddle, the legs, the tail...

So are we back on cockeral?

You have a boy and a girl there!!! very beautiful pair!!!

I've got 2 bantam Barnevelder boys right now, and that back one looks just like em!
