If they find it...can they eat it?

It has been unusually beautiful here the last few days, so I have taken my 3 week olds out in the yard for some exploration. Yesterday they found a caterpillar and a small slug, I took both away...after a game of chick football LOL. Should I allow them to eat what they find, if not yet, when will it be OK? They do have chick grit in their brooder.

Absolutely let them - think what they'd be eating if Mama Hen was raising them - they'd be eating those things from day one. They may find that they don't particularly like certain types of caterpillars and not all like the flavor of slugs but by all means let them try them.
