If you could live anywhere in the US...

I wonder if you all realize how romantic and exciting the U.S. sounds to the rest of the world. When I look on this site and see posts from people who live in Carolina, Texas, Alabama, Kentucky (I see there are heaps of you guys) Montana, Maine etc etc .... all the places that we outsiders grew up with on our movie screens. I wouldn't mind living in any of them and must say it's one of my life goals to tour through your country. I've just moved to New Zealand and am happy for now, but will travel up your way some day.

I live in southest MO on drained swampland. The summers are bearable, the winters not bad; spring and fall are heavenly. My soil is black, soft and without rocks. The water table is high enough that I don't need to water easy plants like beans and watermelon. I love the south and couldn't imagine living further north. I used to dream of the high desert in the southwest-less mosquitos and fleas. Now my dream place would be anywhere that I could reach any of my kids within 30 minutes.

Uhm - can you have chickens live on the beach with you? Seriously.... I'd build them their own little beachfront condo coop and run in my backyard somewhere in San Diego. You know... when I win the lottery.

I LOVE Alaska and have spend a half a century here without any regret but dang its cold right now! And my first grandchild is not living nearby so I want to change that.

1. by the sea
2. by the mountains and the sea
3. lots of elbow room and no weird insects or snakes
4. not too many trees cause I'll get lost unless the dogs/cats lead me back
5. near my five adult children

Right here in Alabama, sweet!

I know that everyone loves their home.
I left Texas twice in my life and it was horrible for me.
My prayer is that if I am ever called away again, then Lord please give me grace to love where you call me.

Your cottage looks very sweet and quaint, and that land... WOW, what a treasure your dear grandfather left for you!

If you want my place here in North Carolina, I'd be happy to swap with you.

This was the view from my front porch yesterday evening.

Seriously though, I'm very blessed to have what I have and am happy and content to stay right here.

LOL, I had a friend who chose to move to San Diego because of the 70 degree "average" temperature. I had to laugh at her on the day she came in all upset because they had to scrape ice off the windshield. We had to have a talk about what AVERAGE meant! LOL.

Truly, I am not sure I could move anywhere else. Yes I scrape a very thin layer of ice off the windshield occasionally. Yes I sweat like crazy during heat waves. But when I can go sit on the beach in December and visit the snow in the same day - what more could I ask for? (other than afforable housing?)
