If you could only have 10 chickens...

Australorps and Silkies! Since Guineas and Turkeys aren't chickens then I could have a flock of each. The man who delivered sand for the runs said Silkies weren't chickens they were rodents so since they're unlimited I'll have ten Australorps for my chickens. Plus all of their babies which don't count as chickens until they lay. I'm getting good at chicken math!

But seriously Australorps and Silkies are gentle. Aussies lay well and are good meat birds and the roosters almost never ever fought--we processed all but one yesterday--and the Silkies are cute! Even when the roosters spar they look like two balls of dryer lint chest bumping. Sometimes it's hard to tell if they're extremely tame or just can't see you coming!

That is my conundrum... only 10 will fit on my side of the run

So what I am working towards, is:
4 Barnevelders: For their beautiful feathers and personalities- both blue and traditional dbl laced
2 Lavender Orpingtons: because I just LOVE the color and how FLUFFY they are, and they are very calm
2 Black copper marans- for the extra dark eggs and their striking plumage
2 Blue Copper Marans- just because the look so cool! (prolly one of them a roo)
And something that lays blue eggs... if that bird be blue or lavender, all the better!

Like pinkchick, I got da blues! and I don't even own any, just drool over them

see, 10 is the number I try to maintain. That is what fits best in my coop/run.

I have 8 EE and 2 barred rocks. The barred rocks were the last 2 left at the store and they looked lonely so DD wanted them.

Faverolles
Dorkings
Partridge rocks
Australorps
Buff Orpingtons

Of all the breeds I've had, these were my favorites. They've had the best temperaments, the best personalities and I like the way they look.

No, can't do it, 10 is torture! I have 53 and still want more breeds! But, I'll try...

Ameraucana or EE (such sweet, well behaved little darlings, plus beautiful eggs)
La Fleche or White Face Black Spanish
Wyandotte (preferably BLR)
Barnvelder
Speckled Sussex
Dominique (for the barring color)
Sumatra
Jersey Giant
Saipan Jungle Fowl
Malay
Chantecler

id get 2 cream legbar
2 wellsummers
2 light sussex
2 ex battery hens
a silkie and a maran
