Well my boyfriend has told me I can only have one breed of rooster. He really would like me to get to one breed period. I have to have a good dual purpose bird. He likes a white feathered bird for purposes of butchering. So I guess for now I am going with the Delaware. I do like the breed but I really wanted to have several different pens. I wanted some RIR's , Barred Rocks at the very least and then I do like Black Australorps.

What would you choose and why?

I have had a mixed flock, and it is easy to tell birds apart, and easy to count birds at night.

But when I read your requirements, my first thought was the Delaware breed. I have always had hatchery breeds, and have lately been thinking of upping the antie next spring. The Delaware is were I think i am headed.

However, you might start with these, and then later on, perhaps you can branch out?

I have the Delaware now. I do like them. I would like a little better quality than what I have. I have several different breeds and he wants me to scale down due to the rising cost of feed and having to maintain the different pens.

Yes, I do breed them to replenish my own layer stock. I can't mix the roosters. They fight and then of course the obvious mixed breeding.
