Barnyard Mix. Why? Different reasons.

I don’t show chickens and I’m not trying to conserve a specific breed. I have no reasons to even want a specific breed or color.

I like a multicolored flock. When you hatch chicks from a mixed flock you never know what you are going to get.

I raise my chickens for meat as well as eggs. I’ll use an incubator to get my hatch numbers up but I really like a broody. I like chickens that can forage for a decent part of their feed.

This is the kind of flock that has been raised by small farmers to feed their families for thousands of years. It’s the kind I grew up with. I can’t imagine me having any other kind.

I agree with you entirely! it was just a (for the fun) of it question.

ha-ha sorry your post made me think of that.

I guess I meant to ask what your favorite breed was ? if you have one.. like if you had to start all over again today what yould be the first breed/breeds you'd get?

Probably Australorps! I want to breed them some day. Sweet personalities and über layers. Good thing I don't have to chose though. Soooo many nice breeds.

Ko Shamo. I only keep waterfowl but if I ever end up getting into chickens I'll probably go with the Ko Shamos. They look interesting to me and are supposed to be very intelligent.

Sicilian Buttercups. They are very pretty, very sweet, and OK egg layers.

But, seriously, I'd probably get BBS Ameraucanas.
