My dear husband, who I adore and love with all my heart, recently decided that we should import some birds. I know that it is terribly expensive, but what can I say...he's a great guy.
But now the big questions - what do I get and from where? Can anyone help me out? I need a link to UPDATED, CURRENT info about importing regulations.
Also, we are going to Amsterdam in November for our honeymoon. How can I turn our honeymoon into a chicken event?

Seramas are on the short list, along with Lakenvelders, Barnevelders, Orpingtons, Whyandotts and Sussex. I haven't decided on colors yet tho.

Import Chocolate Orp or Cochins!!!! Bring in Chocolate genes and the world will beat a path to your door. Chocolate is screamingly rare in the US.

For other colors to look in to - check out the UK and European links in Cochins (in Europe Pekins) and Orpingtons!

If you can bring in Euro colors that are NOT here, it may be PRICEY but eventually it could so totally be worth it.

People would totally be looking for chicks, eggs, practically everything you could breed in the rarer colors.

I'd change your topic to - If you could import ANY color what would you import...

And yes, I'm jealous...

It costs thousands of dollars. herechickchick found out all about the importing thing and they must be quarantined in New York for a period of time, eggs and birds, etc. You might be able to do it, but because the bad strain of avian flu is overseas, it is very difficult.

You are speaking about doing things legally, but just wanted to say to all who are thinking about this, please don't try anything illegal, like smuggling hatching eggs over. Something like that, if it turns bad and begins the spread of a disease that we don't have here in the U.S., could jeopardize everyone's flocks.
