If you had a dark-egg Rooster. . .

(like a Marans, Barnevelder or Welsummer), and bred him with your brown egg layers, would the next generation lay darker eggs? Just curious. . .

and also, if I hatched some dark-egg chicks, and got a roosters, would they be any easier to re-home than other breeds??

Hmmm, I was wondering the same thing. I have a Maran roo, and some BO hens...im sure there will be some mix ups in the spring...that is IF Magic, my Maran roo settles down. He might have to find a new home...he is a little cocky and likes to challenge me from time to time.

There is always such a surplus of roo's I don't necessarily think they would be easier to home. Guess it would depend on what everyone was looking for in your area.

Barnevelders and welsummers are on my list for wants but like most folks I'd rather have pullets, although if I could get a pure Barnevelder roo right now I'd take it...lol.

Yes, I'd think the eggs would be darker than the hen's eggs. And breeding back to the 'dark egg roo' would eventually get you back to 'as dark an egg as he came from'.
I don't know where you'd go from there, tho.
