I didn't read your article yet but I have snow birded with chickens from New England to Florida for 10 years + and chickens are excellent car travelers. Ive never had more then 6, split between 2 crates. I tend to put paper towels in the crate or cage over shavings to make Clean up fast and less smelly on the road. But they are quiet unless I stop fast or make a quick turn, then they grumble. I learned the hard way to use soft sided dog crates not cages so Shavings stay in the crate otherwise you'll be cleaning them up for months. Sadly I'm down to two hens after a coyote attack so this year should be less messy.
