If you have to have a permit to keep quail

lol, that is ok:) I guess we will just enjoy them & if we happen to be able to sell babies later that will be great. I just think we'll have trouble finding others with a permit to sell to;) I honestly enjoy watching them more than the chickens.

I've read through the Va Game and Fisheries permit sections and from what I can tell you only need a permit for Bob White Quail here according to their web site.....
Odd they would require one for Coturnix in NC???

yes each state is different I have my Class A lisence from NY is handles my ducks and quail. I must tag all dead quail for eating with these special tags and can sell whatever I want as long as I am the one selling them, no middle man allowed.

Good Luck!

The wildlife commission said any quail in NC requires a permit. Doesn't matter if it is bobwhite, button, coturnix... any type requires a permit.

Washington is sure different. Its only gamebirds (Bobs and Valley, Mountain I suppose). It slegal to possess them, and buy them, but illegal to sell them without a permit. The permit is over a hundred dollars and you have to have your birds, and place certified by a vet. That isn't cheap either.

Yep, every state is different. Here, the only game birds I need a permit for are bobwhite quail, canadian geese, and any type of 'wild' duck. I don't think mallards fall into this category, but I don't need one for pheasant, partridges, or coturnix. I don't even need one for bobwhites, but the stipulation is that I can have less than 50, and I can't sell them or their eggs. If I do, THEN I need a permit. Silly......

Your feed store didn't tell you that you needed one because it's not their responsibility to check up on you. But I would think they would have at least let you know, that's not right. They are just out to make a buck.

Actually the law says you can't sell unless you get the other person's permit & you have to keep a record of it. I am a little surprised that they didn't ask for our permit b/c they could get fined for selling to us. I hope our permit goes through. I would hate to have to get rid of our cute little quail.
