If you were looking to produce sex links...

Silkie, thanks for all that great information. I think what you gave me, tho, was info to get black sex linked hens. I would like to somehow get any color BUT black, as I already have black hens.

What about a Delaware roo? Would that work?

Delaware is columbian on the chicken calculator only Barred. So you change that part. Then plug in the hens you want him with and voila - progeny. If it will affect the sexes differently the calculator will tell you.

Delaware roo over barred will still give you black. I think the problem trying to get anything else with the barred is you have that black color with the hens.

Good luck finding the right breed Halo - would BC Marans work??? some of those males are hefty and many sweet. All the old sex link lists just don't figure in the new breeds.

I was playing with the calculator with my potential meat/layers pen, culled Delawares/culled Marans/and the Black bleeding red rock pullets that I'll want to keep even after they're done with the second generation here. (They're HUGE).

OMG the RAINBOW... that is going to be a fun pen.

See??? I get a form of Crele

and gold birchens, and cream with red shoulder birchens, I do just love the chicken calculator.

Black hens are always problematic, an RIR or BC Marans over your barreds would kick out sex links I think.

You know Tadkerson has good RIRs might get a decent one there. Nice type as well.

So would be having a black roo and anything else.

At least here the bleeding red part is a dead giveaway to the 1/2 partridge blacks.

It has to be a barred hen. Cross them on any other color. The males will have the barring, the females will not. Yes the males will have a spot on their heads. I have done this with buff and red. I will be breeding blue sex links next year. "Blue Stars" as I call them.

That's AWESOME! Can't wait to see some. What kind of blue would you use- Orps?

Ah, the ol brain is just swirling around today thinking about this.

Ive pretty much figured that Ill end up with black hens...unless, as one poster said, using a white rooster would end up with white-ish hens.

So, in the spirit of staying with what I already have, what would wheaton over barreds do? Would that just create an explosion of color, or would the barring still transfer to the males only? Would it be definable at hatch?

Like I need another project.....

Thanks for the ideas, guys. Youre the best.
