well i dont think it is 100 percent needed because there are other ways to go up, but it is definitely very helpful and it would be annoying if it didnt work anymore

if you mean scrolling up, you can do so with a touchpad or mouse
on touchpad you just swipe with two fingers at the same time, and with a mouse you would spin the middle wheel. also if you have a touchscreen, you could swipe on that to go up too

if you mean going up lines when youre typing, it may be easier to use the keys, but you can also go up by clicking the areas with your touchpad/mouse/touchscree

well technically not (most things it does can be done with a mouse/touchpad/touchscreen but its very helpful
