Ill Quail...HELP PLEASE!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAH help! This morning i found her lying down and thought she had passed away, but as i tried to pick her up she got up and walked away. She is no longer sleeping all hunched up, but i think it might just be because she can't stand up long enough to do so. At the moment she keeps folding her head under her chest, leaning forwards, falling over forwards onto her back and rolling over only to get up, wobble around and do it again PLEASE HELP!

Have you gotten her wormed, started on any antibiotics, or high potency vitamins in the water? These are the only things you can try at this point. Until you try any of these things, she will either throw what ever she has or die. Not that any of these things are a sure fire cure, but as for you doing something to help her, these are about the only things you can do.

thank you VERY VERY much. We are getting some antibiotics later today, and she is also going to be wormed. She is also looking a bit better and wobbling less. One more thing, the female i put with her when i took Gonzales out of the big pen is showing the same symptoms as the first ones that Gonzales Exhibited. Does this mean it is an infectious desease? or just bad luck?

I think they all need to be wormed. Birds that have worms slowly decline, lose weight, become lethargic and slowly die. The worms are eating all the food that the birds are eating, draining the life out of them. I would get all these birds wormed.

Plus 1! This is good advise!

TwoCrows and Fat Daddy - What do you use to worm your birds? Is food grade DE sufficient? I've been sprinkling a bit of DE on the food in the dish, but I really have no idea how much to give and how often the quail should have it.

Wazine 17....Just follow the label. Feeding them pumpkin, seeds and all works well as a natural wormer. You cant use the eggs or butcher for two weeks after the wazine either. I go spring and fall on the birds Im gonna keep for breeder stock. The others never see fall !!

Listen to Fat Daddy here. One ounce Wazine in one gallon of water for one full day. No other drinking water but the Wazine. Wazine takes care of the most common of intestinal worms, the round worm. As bad off as your birds probably are, it might not hurt to redose them again in 10 days to get rid of any eggs that have hatched. Wazine does not kill worms, but rather paralyzes them and they poop them out. It does not take care of any eggs. So if they were my birds, I would redose in 10 days.

Sorry guys i've been away for a while...

Today we had a torrential downpour and everyone (exept the herps) got drenched. Gonzales (the ill quail) is standing really still with closed eyes, and head tucked under her body, not moving it. After a while of doing this she usually holds her head up and walks off ( if a little wobbily ) to get on with her business. But not at the moment. Thank you for all your help. I'm not sure if she'll get through this one... I'll keep you updated about her health.
