Illinois...

We're any of the eggs you gave me from Dinner? I would gladly gift a Male chick back to you. They are set to hatch on Monday.
Thanks for the offer but I have hens out of him. The boys weren't as big as I had hoped... The eggs with a d could have been his, but they had been with a different roo for awhile.
It's just sad the way he went. Sad that I was going to process the jake yesterday and didn't. Sad that his hens were calling for him. I have not heard that call before.
I guess I should be glad that I didn't have to kill him. Because I don't think I could have...

I have 2 black roos and one needs to go if you wanted one. It is one of Faradays orps. I couldnt tell you if it was just straight black or black/lav split though. The quieter less in charge guy has a nice English orp shape. The other is the lead roo and he has the Mr. Dummy size (its his grandson) and still growing. I cant bring myself to make either of them dinner. They are too handsome!

I'm also sad abut Dinner. Although I process my extra roos, DD made Dinner tame & that's how he avoided the fate his name implied. He was a beauty and would give "hugs" by resting his head on DD's shoulder. RIP sweet, Dinner.

On a positive note, I'm glad you didn't have to kill him yourself. If we get another gentle giant, I'll let you know. Right now all we have is Puppy, a laced orp. Like Dinner, he thinks he's a pet dog - even a lap dog at times. He has beauty but doesn't have the giant size you would like.

@homeschoolin momma has some great, already mature orps, and I often get a couple "special" cockerels every year. Ones that are too sweet to process. I'll let you know if I get a handsome, big boy that may be a good fit for you.

Thanks for the offers for roos. :hugsSince I am concentrating on meat I feel really bad when it comes time to process a trusting bird. I feel like I have betrayed them. :hit
I have 5 roos left. The great grandpa really should be culled but I can't do it. He is a good flock Master but I don't need him since almost all the hens are related to him. So I have 2 other coops for breeders.
I have 12 white laced red and 11 white Cornish shipped eggs in the incubator. Hopefully some will hatch for breeding stock.:idunno
Also great grandpa can't eat layer feed or his feet swell up. I guess it's gout. I couldn't get chick feed for awhile and he could hardly walk. I hadn't thought about gout from the calcium. But when I went back to chick feed he was much better... I was heartbroken thinking about culling him.

Thanks I had gotten Dinner to breed and then eat, but he was such a sweetheart.... I kept telling him to stay away from the turkeys... The other roos just run away. For some reason he was trying to take on two turkeys before I moved him.
The hen today was the best of his daughters and was in a breeding pen... I think she was too fat. First prolapse I have had.

Well I have an ad up on FB $3 a piece or $30 a dz and haven't had a buyer... A couple people were interested but backed out... Some other people are asking $4 an egg another is$25 a dz. None of their ads have any taker comments...
eBay is $30 to $90 plus shipping

Thank you for the info on turkey hatching eggs.

He was a lav orp from Faraday.

@Faraday40 correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Dinner end up being one of you accidental columbian Isabella laced orps?

I'm still planning on trying to breed them here. Hopefully my Buddy carries the lavender which I think he will as he definitely shows the undiluted form of the coloring.

Of course none of my lavenders have layed in the 2 or so weeks since I put them in the chicken tractor. Brats.

Today is the first day I got two leghorn eggs. I think the freeloaders have decided that DH2B and I were serious when we said their days were numbered if they didn't start laying.

LoL it looks so strange having white eggs in our cartons.

Found a hidden turkey nest with 5 eggs in it. We collected and brought them in. That jenny isn't broody yet so there shouldn't be any development.

I now have another dozen turkey eggs in a week. I am trying to decide if I should set them in the incubator, try and give them to the Jenny, or a broody chicken.

So sorry again for your loss.

Dinner was amazing. I do so hope you hatches go well and I hope you'll share pictures of the white laced red Cornish. We've considered getting a couple of them for breeding our own meat bird variety.

We still have a freedom ranger hen and cockeral from last October/November. The hen in particular is huge and heavy as heck. We plan to keep a couple when we raise meat birds this year.

Yep. He was the very same. A very stunning boy. I liked him a lot, but the genetics are complex and breeding straight lavender is much simpler. (Not to mention still in demand) We lost a lot of money the year I bred cuckoo orpingtons. Even though they were sexable at hatch, they were very awkward-looking chicks. No one wanted to buy them, but the lavs remained popular. I decided to limit myself to lavender, silver laced, and whatever fun colors Jewel gives me.

Glad the threats worked on those free-loading Leghorns! You'll quickly get used to the white eggs.... they produce many.

Also, congrats on finding the turkey eggs. I'd definitely try incubating them.
